Domino Magazine is Back!!

Yes that is right! Domino, my all time favourite decorating magazine (I have every back issue) is being re-launched. It was shut down four years ago by the publisher Condé Nast but fans of Domino have kept the magazine alive through Pinterest, posting old features and photos from the magazine. The editor in chief will be none other than Michelle Williams, who worked at Domino before it closed and went on to become founding editor of the on-line magazine Lonny. Back at Domino now, she is bringing fresh ideas to the new on-line presence and to the print issues out on newsstands next week. On-line you can view and read the article, you can view just the photos of the article and you can shop the items from the article! Such a great way to find the items you love from the magazine. Wishing good luck to the new Domino team!!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Hats in Decor

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

Some of the most fun styling I have seen is when hats are used in decor. Naturally they are often placed in the entryway on hooks and are thrown there very naturally...other times they are really used as decor like in the dining room in the picture below. I don't just like them because of what they look like, although they look great...it is more what they represent. It makes me think of being outdoors, being in the sun, rain or even in the cold when you see a warm wool hat as you make your way into the house. It is really about warmth, fun, and style! They give a wonderful, natural feeling to a room and of course they are super practical to have hanging around!

Enjoy!

Pretty Pastels

I am really crushing on all the pastel colours I see on Pinterest these days! So great in a white room for a bit of subtle contrast and mixing all of the different pastel colours together looks so great. I especially like the brighter yellow with the pale green and pink. I have a very pale blue bedroom with neutral tones and white and I really love the softness of the look but it is really the only room I have a bit of pastel in my house. It would be simple to add though in a table or a lamp and I think it would pick up the look of the room especially if you keep it to a modern look. Of course pastel and shabby chic go together and always look great but shown as it is below is very new and fresh!

Open Spaces

Such a pretty home from Veranda Magazine featuring open spaces and gorgeous white decor! This great room has a living room, kitchen and dining room all in one large space. Now this does pose some advantages and some disadvantages but personally I love an open room like this.

My kitchen and dining room are all open with the living room closed only by a small wall, so basically it is a pretty open space. Now when I cook (swearing while I mess up a meal) it is open for all to see. I am possibly the messiest cook around..so this means pots and pans everywhere (disadvantage) but I can cook and chat with the guests at the table and not miss out (advantage). They can also come and stand by the island and help and chat as well (advantage). There is more light in all parts of the room (advantage) but finding any alone space is a bit harder because no matter where you are someone is not far away (disadvantage)......mmmm...so what you think? Do you prefer an open space or closed rooms?

Enjoy,

Black and White Scandinavian

So love this Scandinavian apartment! So inspired that I can see doing this in one of my clients homes. The couch is just perfect. Modern but still comfortable and the coolest of lamps beside it...also the coffee table is just so perfect! I would love to have one of these cross blankets from Pia Wallen... they are really beautiful don't you think?

Hope you are having a great week. Check out these Scandinavian beauties HERE and HERE..

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Textured Walls

There is something about textured walls that I really love...I am not talking about the old fashioned sponge painting here..I mean the "Hey look I tore the wallpaper off the wall and I like it" kind of texture! The rough feeling of old paint, brickchipping wood, torn wall paper and peeling plaster.... contrast that against chic, sophisticated furnishings and lighting.

In the photos below the walls are shown with shabby chic, industrial and French style and they look amazing in every picture. Now of course you have to have the right type of home...but does it have to be a really old home? Can you achieve this look in...say a new industrial loft? Of course you could and it would be amazing! Take a look and let me know what you think?

Enjoy!

Retreat in the Orchards and Vines

This amazing and beautiful home sits between Orchards on one side and vineyards on the other.  Originally three cottages dating back to the 1890's, Orchard Keepers as it is called,  has been lovingly restored into a beautiful four bedroom home that is for rent. Situated in South Victoria..that would be in Australia...this stylish house has got it so right in the decor and design..wow! So many things to love here..Simple, cozy, neutral tones, natural fabrics and textures..check, check check..Love the picture with the book pages and the wonderful wood throughout. Check out this other gorgeous home in Australia...Hope you are having a great weekend!

Enjoy!

Etsy Finds

Some more gorgeous Etsy shops for you this week. I am such a fan of Etsy. There are so many great things. I was at a wedding a couple of weeks ago and the bride had a gorgeous headband with a veil attached that was really knockout and she had bought it on Etsy! Take a look at these three shops I found...

Kari Herer

Kari is a photographer with a background in fine arts and graphic design. Her Etsy shop has been featured in many magazines and it is clear why...her prints are absolutely gorgeous! I love the flowers integrated with the design..oh so lovely really.

Sunday Owl

Lisa makes these wonderful 18K gold rings by using the technique of wax molds. Her jewellery is so simple and refined with delicate coloured stones. These are pieces to last a lifetime and to pass on...

pi'lo

I met Heather, the lovely owner of this shop, in New York last year and fell in love with her things. First of all her booth was all white and cream filled with soft and natural items. How could I not have let out a sigh when I saw her cute toys for children or her wonderful pillows. Lots of variety and here and full of great gifts..

 Enjoy!

Fashion and Decor

It seems to me that the clothes I like best are very often a reflection of the houses I love. They are all neutral tone, kinda loose and comfy and, more often than not, have a shot of blue for good measure. I love grey, white and camel together and homes that have those tones really speak to me. I don't actually wear a lot of denim or have any in my home but I like what denim represents....a relaxed mood and natural fabrics. I am really finding there are some great fashions this fall so it should be fun dressing for the season. I am still hanging onto the summer mood but am getting more ready to pull out some sweaters after writing this post!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Raw Wood

There is something about raw looking, greiged wood that adds a kind of deconstructed feeling to a space. You would think that it would only work with an industrial look but not at all...it works as a contrast in any type of space and adds this incredible warmth. This look is not new but I am loving the way I am seeing it used all over Pinterest in the most unlikely homes. It could be just a touch as in the first photo or used on a wall, floor, in the furniture...really there are so many ways to use it and I am loving it!

Enjoy!
