Good Book: Creative Spaces

Today I bought this wonderful book called Creative Spaces by Geraldine James. A wonderful compilation of 20 homes divided into different design types such as "art-loving modernists" and "carefully curated purists". Firstly, I love the size of the book. It is large enough to see the pictures well but not so large it is hard to hold and the cover has a bit of texture which to me reflects what you find inside. This book is the third in a series from Geraldine, the others being Creative Displays and Creative Walls, and I have to say I love the feeling of each space she has chosen. They are very thoughtful rooms, not always my style, but always interesting. My favourite is John Derian's home in Brooklyn ( it is the cover shot). The way he has collected and styled his treasures is so intriguing that I looked at each picture over and over to take it all in. Really enjoyed this book and look forward to collecting the other two!

Understated vs. Overstated Rooms

I love the clean simplicity of a Swedish home, yet in my own home I tend to collect things from dishes to mercury glass that has filled every corner, table and floor space available. Though I love the look of an understated home I tend to the overstated....lots of stuff! I want to live with many things around me that make me happy and I just think in an understated home....what would I look at...what would I move around....what would I collect? Pretty impossible but my admiration for those people that can edit their home, to show off all the details of each carefully picked item, knows no bounds! Here are a few examples of under and overstated rooms. What do you like?

This is the slightly odd but strangely beautiful apartment of fashion designer Frank Leder. A home with the most amazing architectural details from fabulous molded ceilings to the gorgeous herringbone floors.....Really everything is so interesting in this place! Jars and jars of what I am not sure, covering several surfaces and then there is the pile of chairs in the dining room...super creative and eclectic! Every room has such a great ceiling lamp as well. Take a slow look at each room not to miss a detail!

Enjoy!

Interiors: Creative and Eclectic

This pretty home in London has some really great elements. I especially like the kitchen....great lights, a mix of wood and tile on the floor and really cool built in shelving! The rest of the home is very eclectic but again has some creative ideas going. The globes on the dresser in the living room make such a fun collection and what room isn't more festive with flags strung across it? I love homes that are naturally and instinctively put together...makes it feel really homey and easy going.... take a look at a couple of other eclectic homes I have blogged about before..

Enjoy!

Interiors: Shabby Eclectic

Gorgeous shabby, eclectic details in this London home....packed with homemade, crafty items such as the patchwork blanket on the chair and bed as well as worn vintage items and a pretty Mora clock. A lot of different styles packed into one space but it is lovely all the same. I love the little table in the hallway and the two corniche that add to the beautiful architecture of the entry. Worn white floors and pretty shutters and I would say there is nothing dull about this lovely home..

Enjoy!

Bohemian Eclectic

I have shown this living room picture before in the Floral post here, but I wanted to show you the whole apartment as I find it so inspiring. There are so many elements that I would love to add to my home...like the rug, the rustic ceiling light, the steel stag head and the leather lounger.

The hallway looks great with the metal table and the two mirrored drawers on either side of the door. The bedroom has a cleaner feel but with a bit of sparkle. It is fun and eclectic with a bit of a bohemian touch throughout.....Thanks to Lonny Magazine for sharing another great home!

Enjoy!

Paris Factory Loft

I had seen one of these pictures on Pinterest and found the rest of the photos very recently. I love when that happens and I get to see the whole home. What I like about this is the big letters in the kitchen area and the loose, eclectic decor. I can imagine a young couple or students living in a space like this. Check out the barn lamps above the kitchen counter!

Enjoy!
