Inspiration in White: Painted Furniture

I love painted furniture and I have many pieces in my home. Vintage furniture painted in a rustic way with chalk paint or milk paint are my favourites. I like how over time the lightly sanded parts become more pronounced and the intentional wear and tear sanded into the piece becomes real. I have done some of the painting myself and have had a few pieces done for me.
Of course the Queen of painted furniture is Miss Mustard Seed's, Marion Parsons. She is so talented and always does an amazing job on the pieces she hunts down at tag sales and flea markets. She has a great number of tutorials so head on over if you are considering doing a little DIY on a piece you have found or something you have at home. You can even buy her Milk Paint line to help you along.
Enjoy!

Sweet Apartment in Sweden

This is a lovely little apartment in Sweden where the space has been used in a really great way. The kitchen is bright and well planned with great concrete counter tops. The hallway is a pretty inviting space as is the bedroom. It does not take a lot of furniture or a big home to create a wonderful and peaceful place!

Enjoy!

All in the Details

I love this house in Copenhagen and what I like about it is that it is full of surprises. It seems that in every corner there is an object or color that is used in new ways that are amusing and fun! Even if this house is not your style there are some great ideas for decorating that we can take from Josephine's approach to creating a personal and warm space!!

1. Painted Floors - Not only have the floors been painted white bit with the added detail of diamond checks in two colors!

2. Adding Textures and Color - There are so many great textures and prints going on in this photo from the fur to the knitted chair cover to the vintage texture on the lamps and tables.

3. Imagination - The addition of the sign post between the living room and dining room adds fun and wimsy to the space. I love that the sign post is a paddle!

4. Vintage Details - There are a lot of vintage items throughout the loft that add charm to the space.

5. Materials - Using different materials such as the wood and metal brings more warmth into the space.

6. Color - Pops of different colors throughout the space make this feel young and modern.

7. Don't forget your pet - Each area is thought through to make it fun and clever even Rover's bowl!

8. Lighting - There is a lot of lighting in the home that is different yet carries a theme throughout the space. I am loving the pail lamps against the wall!

9. Forgotten Spaces - Even the stairwell provides an opportunity to add creativity and imagination.

#10 - What would you add as the 10th feature you like about the space! Leave me a comment below and let me know!!

Enjoy!!

Porches and Patios

I always feel a little sad as summer comes to a close. Our winters here are long and hard and during the summer we are outside as much as possible. We sit out on the porch in the back looking at what new flower has come up and just generally enjoying our garden.

Every summer for the past 14 years we have vacationed in Maine (unfortunately not this year) and one of the things I love about Maine is the big porches on so many of the houses. I love it when there is a wrap-around porch, and I see the people that live in the house sitting outside watching the world go by.

Do you have a big porch on your house and how have you decorated it?

I love blue hydrangeas. Reminds me of Cape Cod!

Talk about an elegant patio!

Vintage all the way.

That is just like Maine!

Bright white with the black contrast and a pop of color, perfect.

Simplicity at its best..

Enjoy your weekend!
