Interiors: Home of Angelika Taschen

Every time I was in Paris over the last couple of years I would make a stop at the book store Taschen. I loved to look around at all of the art and photography books that they publish. The store has this vibe, very artsy and yet sophisticated and sexy....much like the apartment of the owner Angelika Taschen. This apartment is in Berlin and she says the new way to decorate in her city is to make the best space with very little money...and I think her apartment reflects her philosophy. She has not got a lot of pieces but they are meaningful to her and are all rather artsy and sophisticated..like her store. Most surprising is the kitchen with just one wall of counters and her table and a lamp. On the other wall is a gorgeous mirror, not really what you would expect to see in a kitchen but that is what makes it so great...Take a look.

Enjoy!

White Mediterranean Home

I really love summer and I can't even enjoy fall with the thought of another freezing cold winter around the corner..So to keep my happy summer feeling alive I will keep showing sunny locals and warm summer houses as long as possible, okay? This house fits just what I need right now with a gorgeous location and fabulous decor. Pretty terrace with a spot to lunch or nap and a wall of windows that lets in all of that amazing light. White vintage touches warm up the space and keep it feeling relaxed and not too modern. Just the kind of place I will be thinking of all winter long!!

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Entertaining

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be at a wedding in the countryside in Georgeville, Quebec. I was not there as a guest but as the assistant to the wedding photographer who just happened to be my daughter Chloé. I have been to a fair number of weddings but I have to say this was one of the most fun, out of the box weddings I have ever been to. Everything was charming, clever, and in such good taste. As I was driving home it got me thinking about entertaining and how to have fun and surprise my guests whenever they come to visit.... how to make even a simple supper out of the box and special in some way. There are really so many ways to change things up starting with the table setting. Not the same white tablecloth (my standard) but a really fun table...and what about the food? How about making something new and different...What are some of your clever entertaining ideas? Here are a few ideas to get you started.

A pretty simple table with individual flowers

A clever way to add the menu to your table.

Yummy individual Ceaser salads.

A gorgeous set-up for cheese and fruit.

Love this wooden planter with herbs as the centerpiece!

How about flavoured water? So easy and very elegant.

Set up an olive bar for guests to have with their cocktails....or a special cocktail bar even better..

Pretty mix of topiaries and flowers on the table...

Enjoy!

Well Edited Home

This home, owned by magazine editor, author and fashion designer Laurann Claridge, is simply elegant. Loads of texture and shine, it feels like such a fantastic mix of antique and modern, traditional and fashionable...Loving all the white furniture of course and the funky little surprises throughout the space...ahhhh,  a sheep in the library perhaps? Great rug in living room and such a cute headboard made from a four paneled screen in the bedroom. All of this is from the Lonny Magazine archives. Take a look at some more homes from Lonny here and here...

Enjoy!

Chic Home in London

Oh this is one of those homes that I just can not get enough of! When I see a house like this I go over and over it to look at all the details. This is the home of Australian born designer Alison Henry who now lives and works in London. This townhouse in the Chelsea district, think rock star and socialite neighbors, is simply too gorgeous for words. Totally done in white, with white washed oak floors and pale silk carpets throughout, much of the furniture and lighting is designed by Alison herself. I love the lanterns in the living room and the amazing mirror on the stairs. Alison has four children running around this house and that did not deter her from decorating in white at all...even the children's rooms are done up in white! She has an incredible sense of style and has done an amazing job with this home!! Other London homes here and here.

Enjoy!
