Freshly Styled

Ohhh I just love this house! The contrast of the dark frames around the mirrors in the living room against the white floors and ceilings. Very comfortable, fresh and casual with a swing in the dining room no less! A pile of hats at the front entry ready for a sunny day is just a part of the wonderful appeal of this very pretty house.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! I am in beautiful British Columbia this weekend visiting my mom and it is really warm and lovely here.

Inspiration in White: White Brick

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger... Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger... Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

I love texture on walls and white brick is the most wonderful texture of all....yes I like untouched red brick but a white brick wall has so much life and is well the perfect backdrop. It doesn't need much on it..though a great mirror or a group of frames can look amazing..but just the texture with no adornment can be wonderfully simple and warm. The look can be perfect from an industrial style room to shabby chic and a bedroom to a kitchen. So...don't be scared..get out the paint brush and go for it!

Vogue Living

I have already talked about the magazine Vogue Living but this March issue is the best yet! A wonderful mix of really incredible homes from around the world photographed by the most amazing photographers. (This spread is from photographer Michael Wee). I subscribe to Vogue through Zinio which I love..just get it in my in box and off I go. I do still like to read the paper version of many magazines though...something about the touch and feel of the paper that makes me happy (same for books!).

I love the home below as it has the elements I look for....modern with a mix of rustic vintage giving it a warm, cozy lived in feeling but with so much elegance. Beautiful!

Add a Touch of Warmth with Fur

Nothing adds instant warmth to a room like a fur throw on a chair, on the couch or on the floor! So beautiful, and of course if you don't want to put a real fur there are so many great fake furs. Ikea has really good ones that look real, but are fake and not expensive as well. I have a couple in my place and they work super well. I especially love seeing them on dining room chairs....it makes staying around the dinner table that much more fun and comfortable.
Have a great weekend!

Enjoy!

At Home in Muskoka

This home on Lake Muskoka in Ontario is nothing short of spectacular! Take a look at the location in the last photo...absolutely stunning! The inside is equally as beautiful, fully done in white with accents from nature...a stone fireplace, rough wood counter top on the kitchen island and a wide plank wood floor. This house may be in the country but the furnishings are very elegant in their lines as is the architecture. The details are fantastic in the ceiling of the living room and the wonderful paneled walls that are different in almost every room. When you look at each photo it is incredible all of the different elements the designer and builder, Muskoka Living, have put into this home right up to the marble on the ceiling of the shower...So well done!

California Ranch Style Home

This fixer upper was just what designer Kelley Motschenbacher was looking for when she and her husband began looking for a country home. They created a beautiful and comfortable space filled with white furniture and colourful accents. Gorgeous white sofas slip-covered with vintage French linens make the upkeep easy even with a big golden lab! I really love the desk area with the wonderful shelving and the amazing lamp and the bedroom wall lamps are also really great. There are so many perfect vintage pieces in this space that add wonderful texture like the rattan coffee table and the wooden basket she uses as a table in the bedroom. Add a few rag and sisal rugs and you have the perfect place to relax and unwind on the weekends!

Inspiration in White: White on White Kitchens

Yes...it is true... this is not my first post on white kitchens and.... it will not be my last post on white kitchens because..well..I love all white kitchens! I have seen so many wonderful white kitchens on Pinterest these days that I just had to share. They have many similarities but can I just say that I am still loving the subway tiles...who said subway tile is out because it looks fresh and beautiful in these homes....and what about that whole kitchen done with subway tile floor to ceiling..Love it!

What a year it has been! Not always easy but a year to grow and learn for sure. A year and a half ago I left my life as a corporate VP of Marketing and decided to start my own business in design. This was not an easy decision for me as I have always managed large teams and loved that environment of being around a large group of creative individuals. Day after day alone in my office at home was hard and challenging but through the year I began working with a wonderful design partner that I laugh with everyday. I also worked very hard on my ceramic business this year and have been lucky enough to have wonderful people buy my pieces to put in their homes and I am ever so happy and grateful for that as well. I even rented my own studio with two other artists so I now have my own space to create! I am starting to wholesale my pieces as well and I will let you know what stores will be carrying them soon!

I saw a wonderful response to my blog this year as well and the incredible feedback from all of you has really kept me going. Sometimes it is hard after the workday to come up with new ideas and research for new homes to post but I really love it and will bring some new changes to my blog in the upcoming year. I so appreciate you coming to visit each day or whenever you can and I really love it when you drop me a note.

I am off to visit my 92 year old mom in British Columbia tomorrow and so I will be less in touch this week but I just wanted to wish you and yours all the best for 2014! I think it is going to be an amazing year!

Big hugs,

Shabby Christmas Cottage

Well here it is, my first Christmas post! I know it is not even December and it is Thanksgiving Day for my friends in the south but it snowed the past couple of days so I am feeling like the holidays are just around the corner! This house is a great first Christmas post...too many good things to mention, the lamp in the kitchen, the painted floor, warm furs in the living room and of course..the tub! Loving the bathroom and of course the bedroom.

Hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family..xx

Inspiration in White: Room Dividers

An open concept home or loft is always beautiful but sometimes you just need to create the feeling or illusion of a separate space. There are so many interesting ways to divide a room apart from the usual screen and below are just a few I found. I love a really open divider between a living room and dining room or hallway....perhaps an open shelving unit or glass doors. For a little more privacy a curtain or full screen made of wood or even wood slats is fun and lets the light filter through. Shutter or old doors also look great for a nice vintage touch. I have been looking for studio and found a great open loft space today and I am sure I could use some of these ideas to help divide the space. I am looking forward to it!

Enjoy!
