Gustavian Beauty

On yesterdays post I showed one small portion of this incredible house. I have posted this same picture before on Tumblr and on Facebook and I finally found the entire home. It is so hard to describe this house....it is so spectacular in so many ways...kinda over the top....but if you look at each piece individually you see the most beautiful furniture, architecture and detail. I am in awe of all of these incredible pieces in one room...tooooo much! There is not one Mora clock but four...not one Gustavian mirror with gold trim but several. Each bench chair and table has wonderful detail...and then there is the ceiling....whew I am out of breath..Enjoy!!

Enjoy!

Harmonious Home

The art of Feng Shui was used to create perfect balance and harmony in this home. Of course I find white homes are always peaceful and calm but this space has the added touch of an experts hand. Elements such as the easel were added to symbolize creativity and black was used to contrast with the white to show ying and yang in the home. From a decorating perspective I love the gold mirror in the dining room and the wallpaper with the contrasting black cupboard looks so pretty!

Enjoy!

Home with Style

This is the very creative home of blogger and freelance stylist Johanna Laskey from Lovely Life. She not only blogs about stylish homes but follows her own ideas in her home by combining vintage and industrial into this very personal space. I love the light fixture hanging from the ceiling covered with tulle and how the doors are painted blue to add a nice pop of colour. She says they are like jewellery and add that final touch to the home. I think she is right!

White Decor with Ikea

This sweet apartment is filled with furniture and accessories from Ikea but what I love about it the styling! I have seen these dining room chairs at Ikea and I think they would work with so many different styles from modern to vintage. The bed tucked against the window is perfect in a small room and with the curtains in front makes a cozy little space. The inspiration board in the office is done on a wood shelf or board which is a great idea. You could do this on an rough wood board and it would look amazing!

Updated Traditional

What I find interesting about this traditional home is the balance in each of the elements throughout each space. The design of the home was done with symmetry in mind from the front driveway to the courtyard where scale and proportion is evident throughout. Even though the house is very traditional, I like the little surprises throughout with vintage lighting in the kitchen and the big antique doors in the sitting room.

Although this is not my favourite style of decor I do appreciate the beauty of the finishing and the detail put into a home like this......well done.

From Schoolhouse to Hip Hotel

The owners of this former schoolhouse, turned luxury boutique hotel, have given it a wonderful hip vibe yet maintained the beautiful details of its former life. This hotel, located in Park City, Utah,  exudes warmth and style and what a great place it would be to stay in winter (skiing) or summer (with that gorgeous pool!).
I love the architecture of the building with the high ceilings and the beams all painted white. The use of antique furniture against the modern fixtures in the bathroom is such a great mix and just the way I would like to see a historic building reworked. Thanks to Rue Magazine for sharing this!

Simple Beauty: White Decor

Related Posts Plugin for WordPress, Blogger...

The simplicity of this cabin is so appealing. I am always struck by how some people can keep the minimal in their home and make it look stunning. I always put more instead of less and have trouble editing my home because I love everything so much. When I am in a clients home it is easy as I am not so attached to each of the pieces...so I am determined to simplify and this home is my inspiration.

Clean lines, modern furniture, white on white....no fuss and each piece becomes a statement...love it but could I live in it? What about you?

All White Beach Cottage in Sweden

This little beach cottage in Sweden is just adorable and sooo simple. I have shown a few beach homes before, here and here, that I love... but what is great is how each can feel so unique. It does not take a lot of money to make a home look great or to create that, bring sand in on your feet, feeling...the others are much more "decorated" with a richer feel but this little cottage could be in Maine or on Vancouver Island and be just perfect as well!
Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Painted Floors

I like the idea of painted floors. I reeeally like the idea of white painted floors. I have always said an all white home, floor to ceiling white, is superb.....I also think the idea of stenciling a floor can be beautiful in the right space. Doing the painting yourself does not look that tough but then I have never done it so I could be wrong. I have read about it on many DIY blogs and they are all very optimistic about doing it. Some of the rules of floor painting from Elle Decor are:

• scarify the surface with 150-grit sandpaper
• wash the floor with a powdered detergent cleaner to remove all dust and deposits
• allow floor to dry completely (this may take a couple of days)
• apply a primer suitable for your paint type
• allow primer to dry overnight
• lightly sand primer with 220-grit sandpaper
• wipe floor clean with mineral spirits, using tack cloth or a rag
• apply the first, thin coat of paint with a natural-bristle brush (which creates a smooth finish, rather than with a roller, which creates a stippled finish)
• allow paint to dry 24 hours
• apply two more thin coasts, allowing 24 hours between each

I like some of these painted floors but would I be brave enough to actually try it? I think so. What about you?

1. Painted or whitewashed

2. Painting a pattern or stencil

Here is just one of many resources for stenciling your floorshttp://www.royaldesignstudio.com/blogs/stencil-ideas/7210634-a-sweetly-stenciled-floor-at-sweet-south-cottage
