Country Retreat

This is a really super country retreat in South Carolina that two couples bought and renovated with great style. A fun kitchen and with super cool lights that follow a bit of a them throughout the house. I was looking for a new lamp for my bedroom today and came across some lamps with this rope not only around the wire portion of the lamp but also wrapped around the structure of the shade and it was so gorgeous! In fact they had many styles with this sort of treatment that I thought would be a great addition for a more rustic look. I also like the wire and metal coffee tables in the living room. My favourite room in this home is the screened in porch....I would love something like this during the summer months!

Architect and Photographer: Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen

Wonderful photos of this home in Elle Decor this month taken by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen who is an architect and photographer. Beautifully done and the interiors on the website of Norm Architects are really amazing. All in these white and pale tones similar to this house below. Oh, the clean lines and wonderful simplicity that is Scandinavian design....I even see a few Ikea touches here and there in some of the homes he has done. Things I love in this home....the concrete floors, copper details and the entry tile! Very talented...

Enjoy!

Blue and White Ginger Jars and More

I have a small collection of Asian inspired blue and white pieces in my home. A white ceramics stool, blue and white ginger jars and pots and I put them all together either around my fireplace or on my bay window in the living room. I love the look so much I really would love to have more pieces...it also looks so great when blue and white are mixed in various patterns, with different fabrics or rugs. The first photo is from my home featuring lookslikewhite ceramics. In the other photos you can see that blue and white ginger jars, pots and stools mix beautifully with contemporary, modern and traditional designs.

Enjoy!

A House with Soul

This beautiful home is Belgium is owned by the architect Vincent Van Duysen. Captivated by this abandoned but stately 19th century building he passed each day while going to work he made a few inquires and found it out it was for sale. Not shying away from the challenge of renovating such a massive project, taking apart a series of small offices and tearing up layers of carpets and flooring, and turning it into his home. There was just one problem. A former employee had taken up residence in a small room in the abandoned building and had basically become a hermit. Rather than evicting him Vincent set up some rooms for him on the top floor and let him live out the rest of his days there in peace. Now that, along with the incredible beauty of this space he created, make this a home with soul don't you think?

Inspiration in White: Laundry Room

Okay, now isn't the laundry room really one of the last places we think about decorating...but it seems we tend to spend so much of our time in there! It is not a place I like to hang out but if it looked a bit nicer maybe it would be less painful to do the laundry. So much fun to have a vintage looking space to do laundry like in these photos. Adding cute accessories is key...and of course a really good washer and dryer! Other good investments for the laundry room that make a big difference are: fun lighting (not something I would have thought about for the laundry room, which is strange because it is all I think about everywhere else in the house), a big table or folding space, a chair and some storage space!

Enjoy!
