French Country Lodge

This beautiful country house, built in 1652, in Normandy France was once a hunting lodge. Owned by a local farmer for years, the home had not been renovated and that was just perfect for designer Charles Spada. he took this jewel and turned it into a gorgeous castle! It had almost all of the original features intact and all he had to do was fill it with antiques . Check the amazing chandeliers, amazing prints and fabulous plates on the dining room wall. Love....but really the best piece is the leopard settee...oh I want that...So Good! Really a country house in France is my dream...maybe some day...
Enjoy!

Manhattan Chic in Blue and White

Metallic finishes add wonderful reflection to this glamorous, modern space in Manhattan. So well done in shades of blue and white with silver and chrome touches throughout. An amazing kitchen with mirrored doors does double duty as the entry into the apartment. This has been disguised with two large closets on either side that look so elegant and not expected for a kitchen which is always fun! Just beside the kitchen is the jewel of a powder room....actually the entire apartment is pretty much like a jewel! Pretty blue wall paper in the bedroom is so beautiful against the white bedding and the satiny headboard. What a chic little space!

Inspiration in White: Textured Walls

There is something about textured walls that I really love...I am not talking about the old fashioned sponge painting here..I mean the "Hey look I tore the wallpaper off the wall and I like it" kind of texture! The rough feeling of old paint, brickchipping wood, torn wall paper and peeling plaster.... contrast that against chic, sophisticated furnishings and lighting.

In the photos below the walls are shown with shabby chic, industrial and French style and they look amazing in every picture. Now of course you have to have the right type of home...but does it have to be a really old home? Can you achieve this look in...say a new industrial loft? Of course you could and it would be amazing! Take a look and let me know what you think?

Enjoy!

Beautiful Bedrooms

I am thinking of redoing my bedroom or at least moving things around and freshening it up a bit. I have been looking for inspiration and I always come back to rooms that look very much like my own room now! They all seem to have this romantic feel with a large fabric headboard and a large chandelier over the bed. I like to keep the bedroom simple.....not too much furniture and certainly not much color but it needs to be pretty and feminine.

I really do love my bed...it is super comfortable...because I started with a really good mattress and a really good pillow. Like all great rooms you have to start with good basics first and then dress it up from there. I think maybe adding new bedding may be just what I need to freshen it up, perhaps a new crisp white linen cover would do the trick....new rug and maybe a new dresser....in the meantime it is great fun looking for ideas!

Enjoy!

Crystal Chandeliers

What I like about crystal chandeliers is....well there is not much I don't like about crystal chandeliers (I like all chandeliers in general and have posted about them before HERE and HERE)....but what I find interesting is how they go in any space from formal and more contemporary to modern and vintage. I love them best when they are incorporated in the most unexpected decor. I mean you expect to see them in a more traditional home or with a shabby chic style but when they are in a very rustic home or used in a more industrial space with other industrial lighting, I am always delighted with the contrast. It is also great to see them used in an unusual area of the house like the pool cabana below. Love that extra touch of glamour!

Inspiration in White: Astier de Villate

I love ceramics because as you may know I am, amongst other things, a potter. Many years ago I was in New York at ABC Carpet and Home (also known as the most beautiful store ever!) and discovered this line of handmade, all white ceramics from France. Incredible quality and beauty, I knew I wanted to collect this pottery, despite the elevated price tag.

Last year I had to travel to Paris many times for work. I had a day off and decided to explore the St-Germain-des-Prés area and came across this wonderful little shop but it was closed. I peeked through the window to better see what they had and I realized it was a boutique filled with Astier de Villate. I came back later when it was open and bought a candle in a ceramic jar and each time I traveled back to Paris I bought another piece as my special treat. I now have several pieces and treasure them so much! They also have an amazing line of paper goods as well.

Here are a few photos from a feature that Lonny Magazine did in the March issue on Astier de Villate.

Enjoy!

Inspiration in White: Oversize Chandeliers

There are so many incredible lighting alternatives for every different style of home. I have a board on Pinterest for lighting and I just love some of the new simple industrial lights that are available.....BUT my first love is, and always will be, crystal chandeliers. One of the first posts I ever did on my blog was about chandeliers and mirrors here..

The best way to do a crystal chandelier is oversize..and by this I mean a real statement in the room..not a little one over the dining room table. The effect one of these large chandeliers can have in a room is amazing! The reflection and sparkle it can bring is like nothing else...

Enjoy!
